Smarthistory got some very sweet mail the other day: a packet of hand-made valentines from the AP Art History students at Colville High School in Washington State. Instructor Tracey Delyea (pictured here with Beth and Steven at a College Board event) uses Smarthistory regularly in her class.

We at Smarthistory especially love meeting and hearing from AP Art History classes. Instructors like Tracey are not only wonderfully talented, creative, and hard-working, but they are the ones forging future art historians in high schools across the country.

Meeting Beth and Steven, she writes, “was as awesome as meeting a president or rock stars …. My students and myself are eternally grateful for all of your hard work on our behalf. Without the work you are doing with Smarthistory and Khan Acadmey we would really struggle with the AP materials. Your wit, personal approach and banter engage us …. My students are amazed that you would do this for them. We live in a small, rural, geographically isolated community in northeastern Washington State. The closest museum is two hours away … your work is fantastic and saying thank you is small in comparison.”

And here’s what the students had to say:

“Thank you so much for taking time to make and upload your wonderful art videos. It has saved me many hours of dry reading, and back pain from carrying around all those giant books!”

“Thank you so much for doing the Khan Academy videos. They have been a true hero to my AP Art History education.”

“Every time I need to research for APAH, I go to Khan Academy and immediately go to the videos and watch them. They’re so entertaining and I learn so much more from them. Thank you so much!”

“Thank you so much for allowing us to have the opportunity to learn all things about AP Art History. Your efforts, especially without charging us to use your site, have been a tremendous help.”

“Thank you so much for all your work…. I would be completely lost without it.”

“The AP Art History curriculum would be near to impossible to get through if it wasn’t for your knowledge and dedication. I am a huge fan! Thank you for everything!”

“Your videos have been LIFESAVERS! I’m so grateful for your time and efforts … I’ve quoted you more than enough in my assignments! … Thank you for your hard work, it saves and educates us all!”

Thank YOU, Colville students, for your wonderful messages! We love hearing from you and wish you all the best.
