Images to use for teaching and learning

Did you know that Smarthistory has thousands of high-quality photos that are available for use?

Steven is our resident photographer, snapping thousands of photos of objects or places that we discuss in our videos and essays. The Smarthistory team then selects the best photos, and with a little Adobe Photoshop magic makes them available with a Creative Commons license (more specifically, a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic, or CC BY-NC-SA 2.0).

What does that creative commons license mean?

It means that you can share and adapt the photos as long as you:

  • attribute them to Steven Zucker
  • don’t use it for commercial purposes
  • and ShareAlike under the same license

Read more about this type of license on creativecommons.org.
